I spent Saturday in Peebles. My husband and children came up Saturday evening from Sheffield so that we could all go to Peebles for a friend's wedding. Since the party wasn't until the evening, We had the morning to look around Peebles, which is lovely. Although the rain was pouring down and very windy, we eventually got to see the beauty of the Scottish Borders.
We went to the Tweeddale Museum & Gallery which is the Chambers Institute. I even got a copy of their brochure that has a "Chambers Walk." When it stopped raining in the late afternoon, we walked around and I went to the Chambers house, on Biggiesknowe where the brothers were born and grew up. I went to the Cemetery as well, though I didn't find William's grave. To be honest, I didn't try too hard because it started raining, again, but it was a nice walk all the same. The Tweed Bridge is also a lovely view.
The exhibition on at the Tweedale Museum was on the former railway that used to exist between Peebles and Edinburgh, supported by William Chambers. The woman at the information desk was telling me that at the time of the Chambers brothers it was much easier and quicker to get to Peebles than it is today by bus.
