Christmas Trees in England
I can't imagine Christmas without a Christmas tree. In fact, they are so pervasive everywhere and so universilly associated with the event that we come to know them from early on. My own two-year old has been going around pointing at them and shouting "Chrismas tree!" all season. "Christmas" and "Christmas tree" is part of her early vocabulary.
But all traditions have a history. The Illustrated London News had the image below on it's front page in 1848, and BBC explains its history in our visual culture here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/victorianchristmas/history.shtml
