Finding "the" Filipino hero

Dr Jose Rizal was alive during the period that I'm studying 1860s - 1890s. In fact, he was kicking around Europe during the 1880s, where he published Noli me Tangere in Germany and El Filibusterismo in Belgium. Anyway, the publishing company I'm looking at, W&R Chambers produced a weekly journal, Chambers's Edinburgh Journal, and guess who was reading it? Yup, Rizal himself.
